Hello there, Now if you guys are wondering what’s part 2 then, check out Part 1 here.
To give you a short recap, we added the very first 3 steps simple skincare journey, I mentioned there are few ingredients that can be added either to enhance the look and feel of the skin or the solve any particular skin condition/issue.
Now what are these ingredients and in what products we can find them? These are of 2 types: 1st one are common house-hold ingredients like turmeric, lemon, green tea, etc. All are easily available almost all the time, have been used since ages, we just need to do a little effort to get the work done by them. 2nd ones are newly named as “Actives” but most of them are same old stuff, packaged and upgraded with technology. We all know journey to beautiful healthy skin starts with healthy diet and we have been incorporating these ingredients in our diet but recent studies helps us understand and upgrade the effect with balanced PH and easy to use application methods.
Actives are of different types and gives different amazing results in targeted conditions. Be it Niacinamide, Retinoids, HA, AHA, BHA, PHA or our favorite Vitamin C, all are know by diet or other means. But Now that we have clear studies showing their individual impact on skin conditions make them reborn in the skincare Industry.
Who should use them? For different skin-type/issue you can use different, all depends on what are the results your are expecting from them. Now if you have acne then Acids like AHA, PHA and BHA works wonders for you. If you want brighter healthy look then Vitamin C is the one you should look for. Retinoids and Peptides are mostly related with anti aging process. Dry skin types can opt for Squalene.
How to incorporate them in routine? Start with 1 Ingredient/Active at a time, even if you wish to try multiple products. Always do a patch test before taking them to face. Start at Night routine so, that if it comes out heavy on skin it won’t bother you in day to day works and then slowly take them to day routines. Always wear sunscreen if you are using them in day time. Slowly increase the intensity, do not apply huge amount in one go, even if the brand suggest to do so. Be consistent and follow up the routine for at-least a month, to get the idea how the product is working on you. Don’t be in a rush to make a decision or judge the product.
As all these ingredients are high in concentration your skin might take time to get adjusted to them. There may be purging, a kind of acnes or rashes/redness at first. Don’t stop the usage if you have such conditions, it is a common effect of such high concentrates. Check for how many weeks it’s continuing. If it’s there even after 3 weeks or worsens after every week, then stop the usage and get checked by dermatologist.
These Actives are available in multiple products. You can pick them based upon your interest and level. If you are a beginner then always start with mild concentrated products such as facewash and toners. Later you can upgrade to serums and peel offs. Start with using on alternate days and gradually increase. Keep the steps minimal to 3-4. For Morning start with – Cleansing, Serum/toner, Moisturising and Sunscreen. For Night – Cleansing, Serum/toner and Moisturising.
